High hopes usually go hand in hand with high disappointments, particularly in politics. This is particularly the case with Zoran Zaev, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia.
A great deal of hope was invested in him when, four years ago, he took over the reins of power from the country’s authoritarian leader, Nikola Gruevski. Zaev was the man to return North Macedonia to its EU reform path, after years spent in a despotic wilderness.
